Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) Education Procurement Update

The outcome of the Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) Education Procurement project is now available.

Through the procurement process and engagement of stakeholders, we can inform you that the main points of the specification have scored highly during the process by the new providers, namely:

  • Reduction in repetition of evidence collation for trainees through both qualifications being either mapped or delivered by ONE provider
  • Option for peripatetic assessment
  • Progression reports to aid sign off to the GPhC register and timely sign off of NVQ units
  • Stakeholder engagement (employers) with Providers

The panel were in agreement to offer provision and begin contract negotiations with the Bradford College and Westminster Kingsway College for PTPTs that start their education in September 2016. More information about these providers is available here.

The providers are offering both qualifications with the added benefit that the Underpinning Knowledge is a BTEC, providing rigour and quality mechanisms through a further education governance route. This also provides opportunities for PTPTs to access wider further education resources.

Chief Pharmacists and Education Programme Directors/Education Leads have received letters providing greater detail on the Two Providers and will be notifying HEE KSS Pharmacy Health Education England’s Kent, Surrey and Sussex Pharmacy Team of their preferred provider by the 22nd April 2016.

Health Education England’s Kent, Surrey and Sussex Pharmacy Team on behalf of London & South East will co-host a stakeholder and provider implementation day in May/June. Invitations will be sent to Chief Pharmacists and Education Programme Directors/Education Leads once information above has been collated.

Further briefings and updates will be provided as the project progresses.
