Centralised Pre-Registration Pharmacist Recruitment 2016 and Beyond

In February 2016, the HEE Directors of Education and Quality made the decision to implement ORIEL as the system to support preregistration pharmacist recruitment from 2017 (for the 2018 intake) onwards. ORIEL is an IT system which is currently used to support the recruitment of doctors, dentists and healthcare scientists in England. It offers one central point of application which can be linked to central databases and a national approach to the selection of applicants.

It is therefore well timed that colleagues across Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and most of London have made the decision to move to a centralised approach to preregistration pharmacist recruitment for 2016. This means that instead of students applying to up to 4 individual trusts on Pharmalife to undertake their preregistration training, there will be one “KSS post” which will represent all 65 training posts across KSS and Hampshire and one “London Collaborative” post which will represent 115 of the 197 training posts in London. Recruitment into these posts will be managed by the London and South East Recruitment team who also support medical and dental recruitment. They will manage all processes on our behalf.

A working group to develop these processes has been established. It has met once and has monthly meetings planned until September. The next meeting will be held on April 13th 2016. Further details are available from local preregistration pharmacist training leads.

A careers event/open day for 3rd year students will be held on Saturday 16th April for Kent, Surrey and SusseX and Hampshire Trusts. A similar event will run in June for London trusts.
