Is this course Mandatory?

This course is NOT mandatory, but has been funded to provide training to new and existing educational supervisors (pre-reg tutors) or practice supervisors (trainers) whose employing organisations are registered with the Oriel recruitment system. All educational supervisors do have to meet the GPhC standards for tutoring pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

It is recommended that you discuss this with your line manage to ensure this course is appropriate and meets your learning needs.

For Pre-registration Pharmacist Educational Supervisors:

- The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) do not specify that a pharmacist undertake a training course to become an educational supervisor (Tutor), however, they do recommend that they undertake training if they are new to the role.
- If you are an existing educational supervisor (pre-reg tutor) who has previously completed training with The Pharmacy Training Company or any other training provider, then it is not mandatory to complete this training course. It is recommended that you review the course modules and undertake an assessment of your learning needs before applying.
- If you are an existing educational supervisor (pre-reg tutor) who has not completed training in recent years, again it is recommended that you review the course modules to determine whether this course meets your learning needs.

For pre-registration pharmacy technician educational supervisors:

- This course is optional to support your learning and development as an educational supervisor.

For practice supervisors:

-    If you are an existing practice supervisor (trainer) who has previously completed training with The Pharmacy Training Company or any other training provider, then it is not mandatory to complete this training course. It is recommended that you review the course modules and undertake an assessment of your learning needs before applying.

-    If you are an existing practice supervisor (trainer) who has not completed training in recent years, again it is recommended that you review the course modules to determine whether this course meets your learning needs.

How many modules do I have to complete?

For Pre-registration Pharmacist Educational Supervisors:

- Any educational supervisor that enrols for this course will be expected to complete all FIVE modules within the time frame specified.
- Two of the modules are specific to the pre-registration pharmacist training programme.

For pre-registration pharmacy technician educational supervisors:

- Any educational supervisor that enrols for this course will be expected to complete all THREE modules within the time frame specified.

For practice supervisors:

-    There are THREE key modules which are mapped to the GPhC Guidance for Tutors and take the Practice Supervisor Framework into account; Being a Professional Role Model, Giving Feedback and Supporting Learners.  All THREE modules will have to be completed to receive a course completion certificate, however there is an option to select ONE, TWO or all THREE modules to complete.  This will be dependent on individual learning needs.

-    Any practice supervisor that enrols for this course will be expected to complete all selected modules within the time frame specified.

How long will the course take to complete?

- Each module is designed to be flexible to allow each educational supervisor to log in to the virtual learning environment at a time that is convenient to them.
- Once the educational supervisor has attended the introductory webinar, the first module will be released.
- The educational supervisor will then be required to complete the full module and assignment within 8 weeks.
- An optional end of module webinar will be scheduled to support your learning and development.
- Following the module completion at 8 weeks, the next module will be released.

For Pre-registration Pharmacist Educational Supervisors:

- The total duration of the FIVE module course MUST be completed within 10 months.

For pre-registration pharmacy technician educational supervisors and practice supervisors:

- The total duration of the THREE module course MUST be completed within 6 months.

When will I receive my log in details?

The Pharmacy Training Company will get in contact soon after the application deadline to invite you to attend one of the introductory webinars and provide log in details along with a handbook for information.

Can I complete this course if I currently have a learner?

Yes

Can I complete this course if I do not have a learner?

-    This course is appropriate for all those who are responsible for the educational  or practice supervision of pre-registration pharmacists or pre-registration pharmacy technicians. If you are planning to become an educational or practice supervisor, but do not currently have a learner, then this course will prepare you with the required skills and knowledge to undertake this role effectively.

Is there a refresher course available?

 -  Currently there is no refresher course available.
-   If you are an existing educational supervisor (pre-reg tutor) or practice supervisor who has not completed training in recent years, it is recommended that you review the course modules to determine whether this course meets your learning needs.

What happens if I do not complete the course?

-   This is an NHS funded course with the aim to supporting the development of educational supervisors within London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
-   By enrolling onto this course, you are entering into a commitment with Health Education England and the Pharmacy Training Company.
-   By submitting your application you are indicating that you accept our terms and conditions.
-   If you have enrolled, but are unable to complete this course, you MUST submit your request to withdraw via email to the training provider.
-   This request MUST be received within 14 days of enrolment*.
-   If your request is received after this date you will incur a penalty charge to cover the cost of this course.

* If you have already accessed the course and learning materials and submitted an assignment, you may be liable to cover the cost of this course.

What do you mean by non-engagement?

     -   If you do not complete one module including the submission of one assignment within the specified deadline, you will be considered as not engaging and you will receive an email informing you of the support available.
     -   If you do not complete TWO modules by submitting TWO assignments at the FOUR-month stage, you will be considered as not engaging.
     -   At this stage you will be removed from the course.
     -   You will also incur a penalty charge from Health Education England (HEE) to cover the cost of the course.

What if I am unable to complete the module within the specified deadline?

- If you feel that you are unable to meet the specified deadline, we would ask that you contact the training provider as soon as possible, to discuss what support you require.
- Please note that enrolled participants that fail to engage resulting in failure to submit assignments within the specified period, as stated below, will be removed from the course
         * Educational Supervisor Course: Failure to submit TWO assignments (completion of two modules) at the FOUR-month stage of the course
         * Practice Supervisor Course: Failure to submit ONE assignment at the EIGHT-week stage of the course
- You will also incur a penalty charge form Health Education England (HEE) to cover the cost of the course
